Finding interest things to do with your teenagers it’s not an easy task. Most of the time what is interesting for me, is not for them. But something I know, they love to be on the move, interact with things, the outdoors, at least my teenagers. Something I learn this summer is that they don’t enjoy as much seen monuments and museum…

If you had read my blogs before you know I like to take advantage of the Groupon deals, also because it gives me good ideas of thing to do in town. Well let me tell you our story with this place we found using Groupon… Showcase of Citrus

Upon arrival it seems that is a place to buy fruits and refreshments for your road trip. We look around asking ourselves if we were in the right place.

Are you kidding me! That’s what I thought…
Lake Placid?

But then we were not sure if we where at Universal Studios with “Jaws”and “Lake Placid”. LOL These pictures above are the welcoming of this intrigue place.

Once we enter we told a lady on the counter that we bought a Groupon and had an appointment for 2 pm. We got there early, she told us that we can browse around and gave us a Slurpee for each of us as part of our Groupon purchased, the choices were orange or lime. I got the orange one, was so refreshing.

Exploring Around

Let me show you the things what we explore while waiting for our Monster Truck Tour. Sometimes images speak louder than words…

She love to do faces, no matter the age…

Part of exploring was visiting some of the animals they have and later… the ride.

I will summarize the adventure taking you with us… Check the video below. I hope you enjoy or farm day in Orlando. Remember if someday you are around here in Orlando, after visiting Mickey you can check some cows, eat some oranges, go through a swamp and learn where some of Animal Kingdoms manure ends up. 😉

Until then,

“Must See” in Orlando FL

In the process of getting ready for our road trip coming this June 2014, I discovered some applications to help me learn about the cities we are going to be visiting (DC and NY). I shared them with you in my last post ( I talked to you about City Walks, which hopefully will be very helpful for what we need in this trip. One thing I notice about this app is that comes for many cities in and out of US. I was curious about the kind of information and suggestion that this application might have for the city of Orlando, where I live.

Everybody knows how touristic is Orlando! I am almost certain that half of the people that comes to central Florida is to go to the amusement parks and the other half of the tourist to visit the beach during the winter season, it’s a lot warmer here in Florida. So, I wanted to know the suggestions besides the amusement parks. For my surprise Disney World is not even mention, neither Sea World. I don’t understand why, but I am sure that neither of those parks need promotion.

One of the places that this app for Orlando mention as a “Must See” is Lake Eola Park and it is one of my favorite places in Downtown Orlando as well.

I understand that people when planning their vacation to Orlando, might not even think of passing by here with so much to do and so many parks in the itinerary. But going to a place without visiting the downtown of the city, is like leaving incomplete! Why coming here, why passing by?

Well, in any vacation (specially if you are visiting all the parks!) you need to whine down, to rest of the rush of visiting everything, you need a day to take it slow and easy… Also it will be good for you to know how people live in Orlando. Not everything is a Cinderella Castle around here and you wont see Mickey Mouse running around the city. Come a take a walk through Downtown Orlando, take a look to the normal side of the city!

You can start your walk at Church Street

During the day you will see cars around, at night the street is close to traffic and only pedestrian are allowed. You can enjoy the nice buildings of this small downtown, but still give you that sense of being in the city.

You will find in here, like in any other city, the bars, the restaurants, old and antique look buildings, the main library, museums and much more.

Because the downtown is not that big, you will be able to find Lake Eola Park without a problem, there are signs everywhere or you can ask, its easy to find. Around the lake you will find inspiring sculptures ( ) and lost of friendly squirrels and birds, but the must important to mention are the swans. We have a community of swans living in the park, there are very well take care and protected.

Around the lake there is a walking or jogging trail, there are restrooms, restaurants, a playground for the little ones, sculptures, paddle boats and more. But the best thing that you can find in here is a time for you to relax in the middle of your vacations.

Until then…

Eight Unique Sculptures for the City of Orlando

On November 18, 2013 while the clock was ticking, the clouds and the movements of time were running ,we were part of history while it was written. Around 5:30 pm the inaugural ceremony of the implementation of the eight public art sculptures was happening. Not many people were around but while the sun was leaving, more people gather to listen to the one of the sponsors Bright House Network, the Mayor of Orlando, and the artist of the Global Convergence piece of art, Deedee Morrison .

Once the public announcement was finished, three lucky people won some raffles ( TV, One year free subscription to Bright House, and an iPad). We were not that lucky but still happy to be there and ready to explore and meet the new family of Downtown Orlando. Here I show the map, the order of the pictures is in the order that we did our walking tour. In each location they had a gathering with drinks, postcards, music and more. It was a great experience!

The brochure map.

Now you can come visit Orlando and not only have a picture with Micky Mouse or Cinderella. From your vacation you have to make some time to come to Downtown Orlando. Have dinner in one or the many restaurants that the city offer, have a walk by Lake Eola and take many pictures with our great modern art that now decor our beautiful city. If you want to know more about the artist may read my article here 🙂 ‎ at By the way, my favorite sculpture is Take Flight it looks so pretty at night with the lights reflecting on the lake, the birds look amazing. Which is your favorite? Let me know.

Until then…
